Clarence T.C. Ching Athletic Complex Phase II Loft & Misc. Improvements (O’ahu)

Project Description: 

The Clarence T.C. Ching Athletic Complex Phase II Loft & Misc Improvements included removal and restoration of an existing concrete walkway panel, and excavation and site preparation for a 2,500-sf concrete pad. The concrete pad will be a media trailer pad for the UH Athletic Complex.

HMR Sewer Repairs (O’ahu)

Project Description: 

This project was located at two different locations (Romero Road and Paalaa Road) at the Helemano Military Reservation. Koga’s scope of work included removing and replacing 160 linear feet of 6-inch C900 sewer pipe and 400 linear feet of 8-inch C900 sewer pipe, erosion control, installing a sewer pump bypass, and restoring the exiting A.C. pavement and concrete walkways.

Wilcox Hospital Repairs (Kaua’i)

Project Description: 

Wilcox Parking Lot Improvements included Root and Sink Hole Repair. Exploratory excavation exposed an old cesspool previously backfilled with 3B Fine. A concrete slab and A.C. Pavement were installed. Upon arborist examination of the root repair area, existing roots were removed and root barrier installed. The existing curb and asphalt pavement was removed and area re-graded. New curb (43’), A.C. Pavement (450 SF) and Pavement Striping were installed.  

Sheraton Kaua’i Luau Building (Kaua’i)

Project Description: 

The new Luau Building located at Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort serves as a covered dining and entertainment structure – building area of 6,785 SF. Dining area is 4800 SF with a 320 occupancy. Luau Building also includes food staging, storage and check-in area. Scope of work included erosion control, site demolition, structural excavation, building slab cushion, concrete walkway preparation. Excavation and backfill for interior plumbing, electrical, and gas utilities. Utility work included exterior Fireline (240’ of 8’’ D.I., 80’ of 6’’ D.I., and 90’ of 4’’ D.I. Fireline), 4’’ PVC Sewerline, 4’’ PVC Drainline and 1’’ Cold Water.  

Target Lihue (Kaua’i)

Project Description: 

Target opened its first location on Kauai, located at Kukui Grove Center. The store is approximately 122,000 square feet. Koga’s scope of work included plumbing excavation and backfill, structural foundation excavation and backfill, installation of 8-inch reduced pressure detector assembly, screen wall excavation and backfill (310’), electrical excavation and backfill, preparation for concrete slabs, and concrete walkway and asphalt pavement restoration. 

Hoakalei Area 6C Mass Grading (O’ahu)

Project Description: 

Hoakalei Area 6C is located near the intersection of Keoneula Blvd. and Laukapuna Street at the Hoakalei Develpment by Haseko in Ewa Beach. Koga’s scope of work was to mass embank/grade the area, in addition to, relocating existing Hoakalei Country Club irrigation lines, fittings, valves and connection points.

Servco Subaru Kaimuki

Drainage Improvements

(O’ahu)

Project Description: 

Koga Engineering & Construction was tasked to improve the stormwater drain capacity to prevent overflow flooding into Servco Subaru service bays. Work included removing and replacing approx. 74 linear feet of 18-inch by 18-inch cast in placed trench drain with new cast in place reinforced concrete with traffic rated hot dipped galvanized trench frame and grates. The water collected in the new concrete trench drain will empty onto #2 crushed rock subgrade via 6-inch diameter pipe cut outs along the base trench drain, and will finally enter into an existing 4 foot wide rock swale near the property line along Waialae Avenue.

West Loch Modular Housing

Project Description: 

Koga Engineering & Construction did the sitework for the West Loch Modular Housing Project. This development is a three-story residential building constructed by stacking prefabricated modular units. Located at Fort Weaver and Renton Road, the affordable modular housing contains 58 furnished studio units, a community kitchen, dining area, laundry area, and office for the property manager. Currently, 26 units are used for COVID-19 isolation and quarantine location. 

Makakilo Drive Waterline Replacement

(O’ahu)

Contract Amount: $912,148.00

Project Description: 

Makakilo Drive Waterline Replacement Project is located at the corner of Makakilo Drive and Anipeahi St. This was a Board of Water Supply Project that involved the installation of an 8-inch, 6 inches, & 4-inch ductile iron pipe. As the prime contractor on this project, Koga Engineering self-performed the trenching, pipe fitting, cathodic protection, and trench restoration. Paving, striping, and loop detectors were performed by various subcontractors. Nearly 900 linear feet of ductile iron pipe was installed in order to replace water service to a combination of residential and commercial real estate properties.

HTH East Wall (O’ahu)

Project Description: 

This project is located at the 3735 Diamond Head Road, along Easements “B” and “C” for Lot 1. Koga’s scope of work was to widen the west retaining wall, in addition to, relocating of underground primary power ductbanks and installation of precast traffic rated electrical handholes, relocate existing waterlines to underground, and A.C. paving of the driveway after completion of underground utility work.

806 Iwilei Affordable Housing and Homeless Resource Center (O’ahu)

Project Description: 

806 Iwilei Affordable Housing and Homeless Resource Center is located at the corner of Iwilei Road and Sumner St. 806 Iwilei is a conversion of an existing auto dealership and offices into a resource center for the homeless and twenty-seven affordable rental micro units. This property is approximately 25,000 SF and the building will be four stories tall. Koga’s scope included sitework, structural excavation, plumbing excavation, and underground utilities.

Servco Auto Waipahu Basin & Maintenance (O’ahu)

Project Description: 

The intent of this project was the clearing and maintenance of Servco Auto Waipahu Basin for storm water protection. Work included clear and grub to the bottom of basin, excavate the bottom of basin and install new filter fabric under a new 6” layer of #2A course rock, install a GRP at the drain culvert, 12” perforated pipe extension of the inlet with a concrete collar, installation of sediment filter for drain inlet, installation of new Ingress/Egress pad, haul out and disposal of non-contaminated surplus, and dust control for fugitive dust during construction activities.

Kapiolani Medical Center Transformers Replacement (O’ahu)

Project Description:

Kapiolani Hospital needed to upgrade its primary and secondary power transmission lines from the HECO tie-in to its main electrical distribution system.  Work included installation of new switchgear, transformers, primary and secondary conductors complete all the while maintaining a fully functional and operational Women’s and Children Hospital and Physicians Office Building.  The primary challenge of this project was to install these new electrical apparatus in an area congested with existing utilities that all needed to be rerouted in order to accommodate electrical clearances required by code.  Another particular challenge was the limited space between the building and city and state right-of-way that under any circumstance would not be permitted to shut down or close.

Koloa Rum Maluhia Road Improvements (Kaua’i)

Project Description:

Off-site improvements for Koloa Rum Universal Center. Improvements include installation of 1,000 LF of 6’’/8’’/12’’ D.I. waterline, concrete pathway, concrete driveway approach and placement of asphalt-concrete pavement.

Servco Auiki Property Rehab (O’ahu)

Owner: Servco Pacific, Inc.

Project Description:

Servco Pacific Inc on Auiki Street is located next to a former military reservation known to contain hazardous materials in the surrounding soil.   Monitoring wells were installed to track natural leaching of these hazardous materials into Servco Pacific’s property.  Over time, the monitoring well manhole covers and frame deteriorated with constant and heavy vehicular traffic and needed replacement.  Koga Engineering was contracted to replace four (4) of these manhole covers and frames, remove 400lf of chain link and barbed wire fencing and fence poles, pave 3700sf of asphaltic concrete, underground utility work for an automatic gate to improve overall functionality and general condition of their Auiki Street facility.

Kawaiha’o Church Probing (O’ahu)

Project Description:

Assisting Cultural Surveys Hawai’i for utility probing and archaeological surveying for the future development and improvements at Kawaiaha’o Church. Scope also included asphalt and concrete restoration in main thoroughfares including South King Street.

National Security Cutters Homeport (O’ahu)

Project Description:

The U.S. Coast Guard Station Honolulu was selected to homeport two state of the art Legend class National Security Cutters, no. 7th WMSL 756 Kimball and no. 8th WMSL 757 Midgett. The NSC’s are two of the most technologically sophisticated vessels in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Our work included constructing additional workspace in support of both the FRC & NED operations.

Our work also included the installation of a much-needed large capacity sanitary lift station for ship to shore operations.

Being located in the heart of Honolulu Harbor, shallow ground water levels proved challenging for foundations and underground utilities and improvements.

Kalakaua Slope Repair (O’ahu)

Project Description:

Kalakaua Slope Repair required the restoration of a slope that had eroded away causing undermining of the road.  The project tasks included clear & grubbing, demolition, beam & lagging, structural excavation & backfill, curb & gutter, catch basin installation, fencing, guardrail, ac restoration, and detouring of residential vehicles during the restoration process.

HNL CONRAC ACIP Spoil Maintenance (O’ahu)

Owner: HNL CONRAC

General Contractor: Watts Construction

Contract Amount: $345,572.80

Project Description:

HNL CONRAC was constructed to consolidate all the major rental car companies in one location.  This in turn would help facilitate a better experience for visitors needing rental transportation around the island.

The project included demolition of the existing facility and construction of the new multi-level parking structure, while allowing the rental car entities to still conduct business for arrivals.  The parking structure stands on drilled auger cast piles which Watts subcontracted out to Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company who hired Koga Engineering & Construction, Inc. to maintain drilled spoils.  Our portion of work was portioned into two stages in order to maintain continued rental facility operations.  The first stage was completed in 2017, and the second was completed in 2020.
